Tips for Making a Bathroom the Selling Point of Your Home | Cedar ...

Although your bathroom may be one of the smallest rooms in your home, it may make or break a sale for potential buyers. This is why it?s important to have bathrooms in tip-top condition before listing your home with a realtor. Bathrooms today are more than just a place to groom; they have become a home sanctuary. Making the master bathroom attractive is especially important. The last thing sellers want is for a buyer to look at their bathroom as something they will have to work on in order to reap the benefits of relaxation. When staging a home for a showing, the bathroom is often overlooked. There are a few things that can be done to beautify a bathroom that won?t involve having to tear it down and rebuild it for a successful showing. Here are some tips that help to achieve a look that can make your bathroom one of the biggest selling points of your home.

Adding Attractive Fixtures

Change outdated fixtures such as towel racks, toilet paper holders, cabinet pulls and light fixtures. This will give the bathroom an updated, high-end appearance. Shiny new fixtures speak volumes to buyers when they are inspecting bathrooms to see if they have been updated to their specifications. The newer brushed nickel fixtures and other modern finished looks will give the bathroom a luxurious, modern look.

Bath and Shower

If the tub surface does not shine, it may need to be refinished. There are many companies that can refinish the tub for a fraction of what it would cost to replace. If the tub needs replacing, consider installing a larger tub. Modern bathrooms usually have larger tubs that buyers love. If you have a separate shower, make sure the tiles in the shower and on the floor are modern. Additionally, the grouting must be cleaned before opening the doors to potential buyers.

Cabinetry

Updating or refinishing cabinetry can change the entire look of the bathroom. The wood on the vanity can either be refinished or repainted for a fresh look. Cabinetry can also be refaced with new doors and drawer fronts that can be purchased at a local home improvement store.

Illuminate

Consider adding more lighting to the bathroom. Adding a few can lights to the ceiling can create just the right atmosphere for relaxation. Also, place scented candles around the bathroom before each showing. Your real estate agent can light them right before the showing to enhance the pleasant atmosphere you have created.

The Finishing Touch

Finally, make sure that there is a fresh coat of paint on the walls. Clean and polish every surface of the bathroom so that it reflects a squeaky clean place in which to spend time. Hang new curtains or shades if they are old or outdated. Add a few high-end towels to the towel racks to create the feeling of luxury. Putting these finishing touches on the bathroom will keep your home on the list of must-haves for today?s buyers.

Why Isn't Justin Bieber In Far East Movement Video?

'He's behind the camera,' the group jokes to MTV News about Biebs' absence from 'Live My Life' clip.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><a href="/news/articles/1679826/justin-bieber-live-my-life-far-east-movement.jhtml">Justin Bieber proclaims that he just wants to "Live My Life"</a> on the hook for Far East Movement's latest track. The <i>Dirty Bass</i> single is a feel-good, fist-pumping anthem about, well, living your life. </P><P> </P><P>The dance-music-making crew opened up to MTV News about hooking up with the "Boyfriend" singer and bringing him into their world of dirty beats and even dirtier bass. </P><P> </P><P>"We got to thank him for being in our world for us," Kevin Nishimura said about the experience of hitting the studio with Bieber. "When we met with him, [it was like] 'Let's do a song that caters to that audience that's outside the Far East Movement shows going, "We can't get in, but we live that life." Death & Taxes: Dyslexia Answers

It is the start the new term, which means I take the time to explain to many of my composition students that I am dyslexic. I used to avoid having this conversation, simply because it felt too difficult. However, I have found that if I deal with this reality head-on, life becomes a little easier for me. The stigma really has been simple, I was not diagnosed as a young person, most people my age were not, and it took a long time to realize that my eccentric use of words, and my creative writing issues, were a result of dyslexia.??

Generally, I simply felt stupid.? I could not understand why no matter how many times I was told that this word was incorrect, and now word was being used incorrectly, or that I shouldn't randomly capitalize a word in the middle of my sentence, that I just could not remember these things.? And I tried. The problem was not that I could not remember, the problem was that I didn't see the mistakes on the page. And I'm an editor! I come from a long line of editors, and I always read and reread my writing - but to no avail.? For a long time I was able to joke away the problem, until I became a composition instructor, and I embraced social networking. Social networking is a quick form a composition, where you don't spend a great deal of time editing. It is a space of reaction. A space of conversation. As such, my writing problems related to dyslexia started to show itself terribly.

Also, students will not forgive you, especially if you're part of the English department, if you show any mistakes. It is natural for students to find each and every mistake, and to point the mistake out in triumphant form. This used to frustrate me a great deal, because no matter how much I would try to avoid making mistakes, I could not. I did not see many of my mistakes (from vs form for example). Now, rather than get upset, I encourage my students to find my mistakes, to constructively point them out to me, so that I can make the correction. This? allows my students an opportunity to see the reality of dyslexia, and possibly identify similar problems in their own writing habits.? Further, I can offer a strong example of how to graciously accept? well formed criticism, and how to approach making any adjustments that may be needed.?

This term, as I was explaining to my online class about my dyslexia, and resulting diction and malapropisms that they will undoubtedly encounter while in my class, I took some time and reacquaint myself with a wonderful pamphlet that helped me identify my problems. I thought I would take some time to present the information from this pamphlet, which is downloadable, for my readers. Who knows, it may help someone out there.

?

As all good composition, academic or otherwise, publications should do, Goodwin and Thomson starts off by defining dyslexia. And the news is not all bad!:

Recent investigations into how the brain works show that the dyslexic brain processes some information in a different way than other brains. The difference gives clear advantages in some cognitive and creative areas, though it also creates difficulties. The dyslexic brain can tackle some tasks better because the right hemisphere, the side of the brain that is responsible for creativity, appears to be more developed in many dyslexics than the left side, which is mainly responsible for acquiring language. p. 6

  • Reading, which is likely to be slow
  • Concentration, which tends to fluctuate
  • Spelling and grammar, which can be unorthodox
  • Physical coordination and handwriting
  • Remembering information
  • Organizing and planning- space and time confuses the hell out of me, but I have become a good organizer now.
  • Working within time limits
  • Thinking and working in sequences
  • Visual difficulties such as blurring and distortion of print - for me this is true when I get tired.
Characteristics of handwriting that may suggest dyslexia:
  • Random or non-existent punctuation.
  • Missing letters or words.
  • Spelling errors: the same word spelt in different ways, letters in the wrong order, phonic approximations, omission of syllables, errors in suffixes.
  • Use of similar but wrong words ? malapropisms.- I do this in both writing and speaking - which, by the way, has cause some interesting moments in my life!? LOL
  • Non-standard sentence structure, an impression of
    inexperience in writing.
  • Misinterpretation of questions.
Other indications of dyslexia can include:
  • Difficulties in remembering and following instructions (directions, for example).
  • Variable sense of timing and time management.
  • Problems with organizing materials.
  • Other short-term memory problems such as
    dealing with sequences.
  • Good days and bad days.- well hell, don't we all???? LOL don't we all??

UPDATE 1-UK insurers sceptical over flood cover plan | Silo Insurance

Tue Apr 3, 2012 11:58am EDT

* ?High likelihood? plan would require subsidy ? ABI

* ABI unaware of any insurer supporting Marsh plan

By Myles Neligan

LONDON, April 3 (Reuters) ? British insurers on Tuesday cast
doubt over a plan to provide affordable flood cover in high-risk
areas without government subsidies, saying it lacks industry
support and will probably require taxpayer funding to work
effectively.

Under the scheme, drawn up by insurance broker Marsh
, insurers would pool their residential flood exposure
across low and high-risk areas, limiting the scope for big
payouts, and making the risk attractive to reinsurers for the
first time.

The participation of reinsurers, who have historically
refused to cover individual insurers against floods because most
are exposed to at least one high-risk area, will do away with
the need for a government backstop, Marsh said.

?It takes the problem away from the British taxpayer,?
Hutton Swinglehurst, head of flood risk at Marsh UK, told
Reuters.

?We have the capacity available and pledged by the
reinsurance companies, and we believe we have a critical mass of
leading insurers to get going.?

But the Association of British Insurers, currently in talks
with the government about a rival pooling scheme that would
include a taxpayer guarantee, said the Marsh plan, dubbed
Project Noah, could still require funding from the public purse.

?Our modelling shows there?s a high likelihood this funding
measure would require some sort of support anyway,? an ABI
spokesman said.

?We are not aware of an insurer who actually supports it, so
we are sceptical.?

Britain has been hit by increasingly severe inundations in
the past ten years, with a series of floods in the summer of
2007 costing the insurance industry about 3 billion pounds
($4.80 billion).

Insurers have agreed to provide affordable cover to homes in
he highest-risk parts of the country in return for a government
commitment to boost flood defences under a deal that expires in
June next year.

The ABI said last month that 200,000 homes in flood-prone
regions will struggle to find affordable insurance if a new
arrangement is not found before then.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the
government ministry responsible for flood defences, welcomed the
Marsh scheme.

?Industry-led solutions that allow insurers to compete even
for the highest-risk homes, without government intervention in
the market, would give the best value for taxpayers? money,? a
spokeswoman said.

Defra plans to spend 2.17 billion pounds bolstering
Britain?s flood defences between 2011 and 2015.

The ABI has said Britain is the only country not to provide
a subsidy to those most at risk of flooding, although this is
disputed by the government.

Britain?s major residential property insurers include Aviva
, RSA and Royal Bank of Scotland?s Direct Line
.

Cathy Jordan - All The Way Home Review

Artist: Cathy Jordan

Album: All The Way Home

Label: Blix Street Records

OUT NOW

Rating: 5/5

Cathy Jordan is best known for her work in band Dervish but this week she strikes out on her own with her debut solo album All The Way Home.

The album charts the musical journey for Cathy as she covers a handful of Irish songs that featured heavily while she was growing up - as well as penning some of the songs herself.

There is a real alluring feel to the album from the opening notes of The Bold Fenian Men to the closing bars of All The Way Home, as Jordan brings traditional Irish music to a new audience.

The Bold Fenian Men really does set the tone for the album as Cathy Jordan?s enchanting vocals are supported wonderfully by an acoustic guitar as well as some beautiful strings.

There is a real personal feel to this album as Jordan covers songs that are very close to her heart - but with Roger Tallroth on board they have put a whole new spin on these classic tunes.

Eileen McMahon is one of the strongest tracks on the album and there is a real ethereal quality to Cathy?s vocals on this track.

This track shows off her vocal versatility as she from being deep and very rich to tackling the higher notes with such ease.

She has a voice that is just so easy to listen too that you just get swept away in the story and the music that this album offers - you will hear nothing else like this for the rest of the year.

But All The Way Home also shows off Jordan?s song-writing skills with the likes of The Road I Go, which talks about leaving home for the first time; again Cathy drew on her own experiences as he father struggled to come to terms with his son leaving home.

And All The Way Home is the perfect end to this beautiful album as she sings about returning home after travelling the world.

All The Way Home is the perfect introduction to Cathy Jordan as both and vocalist and as a songwriter as this is almost a perfect album as it brings the Irish music genre to life and with a whole new twist.

The flute, whistle, strings, guitar, pipes, tuba and banjo are just some of the instruments that feature on this great album that all fit beautifully together and support Cathy Jordan?s wonderful voice.?

Cathy Jordan - All The Way Home is out now

Should kissing be banned in WWE?

It?s springtime, and love is in the air all across WWE. Well, at least it seemed that way this time last week. As every member of the WWE Universe is well aware, though, things around these parts tend to change in a heartbeat. (WWE'S POWER COUPLES GALLERY)

Or, in the case of former World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, in 18 seconds.

At WrestleMania, Bryan was defeated by The Great White Sheamus in one of the shortest championship bouts in WWE history. After the opening bell, Bryan took a moment to steal a "good luck" kiss from his girlfriend, AJ. However, while the submission specialist was busy locking lips, his opponent was standing on the other side of the squared circle, licking his chops to get a piece of championship gold. (PHOTOS)

Seconds later, Bryan found himself kissing the sole of Sheamus? shoe, as when he turned around, he met the full force of the Brogue Kick from the Irish challenger. The boot leveled the champion, setting up the quickest World Heavyweight Title change in WrestleMania history.

Sunday?s scenario calls to mind an old boxing adage, immortalized in the 1976 film, Rocky. In the movie, Mickey Goldmill, the salty old boxing coach who proved to be an invaluable resource to Rocky Balboa, emphatically proclaimed that: "Women weaken legs!"

And if you ask Daniel Bryan, or, come to think of it, Zack Ryder, about their feelings on the matter after what transpired on The Grandest Stage of Them All, chances are they?ll agree. Ryder?s seemingly golden opportunity to seal a win for Team Teddy was shattered by the malicious meddling of his "friend" Eve, ruing Long Island Iced-Z's chances for a WrestleMania Moment. (PHOTOS)

Eve?s crushing blow to Ryder was all the more shocking after the events of the March 5 episode of Raw, when Eve shared what seemed like a special moment with Zack, kissing the stunned Superstar backstage and leading Long Island Iced-Z to believe that he and his on-again, off-again Diva crush was back on. (WATCH)

The list of squared circle kissing instances may be as long as Big Show's fluffy bath robe, but the results of the World Heavyweight Championship bout and the Team Teddy fiasco at WrestleMania will have earth-shattering effects on the WWE. The chaos that has resulted from what was once a simple symbol of love now begs the question: Should there be a moratorium on kissing in WWE?

Maybe. But, before WWE kisses off this issue, it is worth mentioning that Rocky also rose above the odds in his movies, time and time again, because he had Adrian cheering him on. So, is a kiss really to blame? Or should Daniel Bryan have been less focused on AJ and more focused on The Celtic Warrior standing ready for battle not ten feet away?

Eve?s interference was overt, while AJ?s was less so. Still, in both instances Sunday night, it can be argued that it was, in fact, beauties that killed the beasts.
